The Curis n series is one of the most emblematic and appreciated arcade racing franchises, and I was delighted when the fourth entry was announced for the Nintendo Switch. However, Cruis n Blast has not started as a title Nintendo Switch, he was originally published as an arcade title in 2017. Now, four years later, a completely expanded version found his way to the Nintendo Switch, complete with its classic and exaggerated gameplay and its luminous visuals. Cruis n Blast will not be for everyone. If you require realism in your race games, you d better look elsewhere. Cruis n Blast is a wild experience with a minimum of respect for authenticity. And I loved every second!

Cruis n Blast is full of content. The game meat comes from Curis n Tour, which is playable solo or locally with up to three other players. Curis n Tour includes four different levels of difficulty through 6 different circuits. Each tour consists of 4 different tracks and often includes a special theme. For example, the Escape Tour will mix race and fierce pursuit of police cars trying to lose your game. The Storm Tour offers four tracks with extreme weather conditions that hinder your shopping. In addition to Curis n Tour, you will also have access to Classic Arcade, which is a reconstruction of the actual arcade experience. The slopes are essentially the same as those of Curis n Tour, but it s still a nice addition. Finally, you will also have access to the counter-la-shows and the individual races. Overall, you will have 29 different tracks on which to run.
Curis n Blast also includes a large assortment of vehicles, ranging from licensed vehicles like humming them to truly wild vehicles like the hovercraft. You will have only one handful of vehicles available when you start, but you can possibly unlock more vehicles by finding keys hidden in each track. Each of the vehicles is fully scalable, providing both aesthetic and performance improvements. In total, you will have access to 23 different vehicles.
Do not deceive yourself, the race here is designed to be fast and fun with very little consideration for authenticity. Press your gas twice to burst your vehicle, and if you press another vehicle while bursting a Wheelie, you will rock directly over it. The drift in a jump will turn your vehicle as a helicopter. Sometimes fixed pieces around the track will fly in front of you, and if the timing is bad, you could end up flying through a huge pirate ship – completely cut without damage or slowing down. Cars look like buffoon cars, crashing on the sides of the tracks and other vehicles like a pinball. Sometimes, hitting an opponent s vehicle with just the right amount of strength will explode it as a Takedown in the Burnout franchise. This game looks buggy, and even sometimes buggy, but it s always a rush.
Curis n Blast offers a solid local multiplayer experience. You can have up to four players via the shared screen or four separate consoles via the local game. There are four different modes available in multiplayer. Curis n Tour, Classic Arcade and Single Race are played exactly as solo. And then there is FIRST TO THREE mode where players continue to run until a player wins three victories. Obviously, online multiplayer will miss you if you do not have friends against who play locally. And this would have been nice to see additional multiplayer modes – but I appreciated the fact that all the progress you make in the multiplayer are transferred to all modes.
Visually, the game is definitely away from the loyalty of games like the Series forza Horizon. That said, there are still impressive moments. The slopes often have crazy and exaggerated features that are activated at certain times in the race. The huge Millennium Wheel is present on the London track, but about half of the race, the wheel is disrolated and starts rolling. In another race, you will meet the biggest yeti you have ever seen in a game. Vehicles are often quite colorful and shiny, but if you look closely close enough, you will notice the limits of Switch material and see irregularities along the edges. Curis n Blast will not win any prizes for visuals, but honestly, this is not the purpose of this game. The soundtrack of the game is a mix of electronic and optimistic melodies. I had nothing to say about the soundtrack, there were tunes that were actually pretty good. You can change track halfway by pressing a button. However, most of the time, the music is drowned by the roar of engines and explosions.
Although I m a big fan of what is included with Curis n Blast, I want additional content to be added and I hope developers are considering a future downloadable content. On the one hand, it would have been great to have some classic cruis tracks from previously remastened and available previous games to play here. In the current state of things, I still have a lot of fun with what is included, but I plan to want more in the near future.
Cruis n Blast is the arcade race at its best. Yes, it s buggy. Vehicles will pass through damper near anything. There is very little realism here. But none of this really matter. During the 2 minute running, it s just this quick and furious gameplay blur with wild and exaggerated scenery and lightning speeds. Although 29 tracks are included, a handful of them are very similar. I really hope we will have a DLC at some point with a collection of new slopes and new vehicles, just to add a little longevity to the global experience. A lack of online multiplayer does not bother me but could be a disadvantage for others. If you have already played cris n games before, you know what you are committed to. I had an absolute pleasure to play Cruis n Blast and I highly recommend it to all speed addicts that need a quick and fun solution on their switch.
